Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has announced the development of a brand new fuel-saving technology that will combine the company’s MIVEC variable valve timing system and Auto Stop & Go idle-stop technology. The two will be combined into a 4J10 lightweight and compact 1.8-liter gasoline engine. The development will certainly help Mitsubishi to meet its goals as far as fuel and environmental efficiency. The engine will be first implanted into the Japanese ASX (Outlander Sport), Galant Fortis (Lancer), and Galant Fortis Sportback (Lancer Sportback). According to Mitsubishi, the engine will produce a 12% improvement in fuel efficiency. These models are set to be launched very soon. This fuel-saving technology has been developed as a part of the Mitsubishi Motors Environment Initiative Program 2015. This program is a major player in the company’s Jump 2013 mid-term business plan. The program outlines several goals that Mitsubishi intends on meeting, including a 25% reduction in on-road CO2 emission. By 2020, Mitsubishi hopes to meet a 50% reduction in CO2 emission. These lofty targets mean that Mitsubishi is moving forward quite aggressively in terms of new technology, and so Mitsubishi customers can anticipate several improvements in coming model years.
